How to find a pin?

Postby Bengt » Thu Jan 28, 2010 1:54 pm

What is the fastest method to identify a pin number of a component in Layout?

Before I CTRL-clicked a pin and started to move it. The pin number showed up in the status bar. Press Escape to skip move.

I now you can bullet a pin and open preferences but this is slightly more complicated.

Dear Bengt,

You can use Ctrl + A to select the whole board. Then right click -> Properties -> Layout Component. From it, you can browse each layout component to view the required pin.

EdWin support: You have not understood the problem. I want a fast method to check the pin number of a specific pin. For example to attach a new wire to pin nn or just to check the direction of a component, are pin 1-10 on the right or left side and so on.

Ken: That was the method I mentioned.

What is the developer must understand is how important it is that an EDA tool is as efficient as possible to use. There are hundreds of operations to make a board and if the tools you use invoke extra steps, it will take longer time. So in terms of efficiency, I miss the old method because it was fast.

There is a fast method. Bullet it, move it, press ESC, move it again. (The same as selecting component/move in the menu but without having to use menus). EdWin is changed in some way so if you bullet-move the status field will not show the same information as a normal move.

Why?
