External Index Database

Postby arcturus » Thu Apr 08, 2010 12:43 pm

Up today, I had no reason to use the EID, but now the time has arrived.

I need to modify all my parts so that they match with the codes of another database (that I suppose -not sure- to be derived from Orcad CIS) to costify the board before the pcb starts.

I searched both help and online tutorials, but I had no success. Not too much docs on this argument.

The main questions are:
1) the fields in Lib Ed are the same in the EID? (I would say yes....)
2) how can I modify / update the EID? Extracting a bill with the use EID checkbox flagged, updates the EID?
3) what are the tools that allows to manipulate the EID offline?
4) does exists a tutorial covering this aspects?

Thank you all

I've downloaded the file: included infos seem to be more consistent than the standard help.

Now I'm just modifying my actual db parts to reflect the index code in the other company db.

I'll try to extract a custom bill of materials with the new codes, and I'll let you know the results.

Thank you for now.

First step is ok: I was able to add new infos to the bom.

Now there are two more things that imho should be checked:
1) modify the bom generation so that when the component name is choosen as ordering key, the resulting component list is REALLY ordered. (probably has been reported in a previous post)
2) in other CADs, in addition to the standard bom list, a production bom can be generated. The difference is that in the production list the order is determined by the values, and each value is present only one time.

The following is a tipical line of such a list regarding three resistors with the same value:

VALUE | QTY| COMP NAMES | PART DESC | MANUFACTURER | etc etc......
100k | 3 | R2 R11 R39 | 1206 RES 100K | KAMAYA | etc etc.....

Thank you and bye for now
