Important suggestion for LOM

Postby Bengt » Thu May 27, 2010 5:16 pm

In the latest CAM tools used by the electronic production houses, probably bundled with the latest machines from for example MyData, they have started to import the CAD files directly and getting everything from there. For example they do no longer have to use solder past stencils generated from the Gerber files, instead they use the Layout directly from the epx file (for EdWin). And they do not have to use the LOM file for creating a component list.

That means that it is very important that we can specify more information about every component directly in schematic. Now there are only two fields. Name and value. I need the possibility to create a lot more fields like manufacturer ID, distributor ID, producer ID, Value 1, Value 2 (for example ohm and volt), tolerance, drift, and so on. It should be possible to specify all of these values directly in the library part or change it after placing. And if I change anything, it must be kept even if I repack! I have asked for this before because even if I use the LOM feature I also want this feature the difference is just that now it is mandatory.

Absolutely with you.

In addition, I would add more fields in part edit, so that the data base could be even more detailed.
Fields could be extracted as usual and sent e.g, to the purchase department in order to give them the maximum detail.

Another thing I'm asking for is the possibility to extract the lom in a more efficient way: when there are 15 identical parts (eg resistor chip 0603 100k, in my resistor lib it's a part named RC0603-100h-5%) I would like the possibility to write only one row in the lom, instead of 15 and a place in that row where the component names are printed together (eg: R1, R3, R13, R14, etc etc).

This is a standard feature in most cad: orcad offered this in the dos version....

Manufacturer often ask us for this arrangement.

Bye
